Sexual assaults have doubled in Kingwood neighborhoods over the past year, according to Houston Police Department crime statistics.
Over the past year, there have been 33 incidences of rape and sexual assaults in Kingwood since last October. Out of all the sexual crimes, there were 24 incidents of forcible rape, of which 15 involved forcible sodomy and one involved an object. Most of the forcible rape incidents took place inside residences, however there was a forcible sodomy reported at a daycare facility Jan. 8 in the 2300 block of Green Oak Drive, according to the reports.
During to the same time period of past years, there were 16 such incidents in 2016-2017, 17 in 2017-2018, 20 ln 2018-2019 and 23 in 2019-2020.
Compared to nearby areas of similar population density, the amount of sexual assaults reported in Kingwood is much higher. The Woodlands and surrounding areas reported just five sexual assaults during the same time period, the Willowbrook area reported 11 and the Spring area reported seven.
The amount of sexual assaults is equal to or higher than many inner-city Houston neighborhoods of higher population density such as Houston’s northside which reported 30 sexual assaults, Fifth Ward and Kashmere Gardens which reported under 30, the Second Ward and Eastwood which reported 31, and South Park and South Acres which reported about 30.
