Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 6900 North Loop East (North Interstate Highway 610 East) about 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday (May 8).
The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Le and Officer S. le reported:
A tractor-trailer truck pulling a crawler dozer was traveling westbound near the above address. A red Mazda 3 also traveling westbound on the freeway changed lanes in front of the 18-wheeler and struck the left front side of the truck. The impact caused the driver of the 18-wheeler to lose control and the vehicle veered to the left and struck the middle concrete divider.
The crawler dozer detached from the trailer, slid into the eastbound lanes of the North Loop East and struck a red Ford Mustang and a gray Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling eastbound on the freeway. The crawler then struck a concrete barrier on the southside of the North Loop and came to a stop.
The driver of the Mustang was transported to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center where he was pronounce deceased. The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported to an area hospital with a head injury. The driver of the Ford, who was not injured, remained at the scene The driver of the Mazda, who also remained at the scene, was later transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
The investigation is continuing.
