Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash at 5800 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 3:45 a.m. on Sunday (July 28).
The identity of the deceased male, 41, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer C. Moralez reported:
The male was driving a white Toyota Camry eastbound on the freeway near the above address when his vehicle struck an object. The driver pulled over and, believing he was on the shoulder, stopped the vehicle in a moving lane of traffic. The driver and passenger then exited the vehicle. As the driver was in front of the Toyota, a vehicle of unknown make or model struck the rear of the Toyota, which then struck the male.
The other driver did not stop to provide assistance and fled the scene.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the male deceased. His passenger was not injured.
