Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 14000 Northwest Freeway (U.S. Highway 290) about 11 p.m. on Saturday (August 31).
The deceased male is identified as Yeriel Rodriguez Mercado, 19.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer C. Moralez reported:
The male was operating a green Kawasaki motorcycle at a high rate of speed westbound on the freeway and weaving in and out of traffic. The motorcycle then struck a white Nissan Murano and was ejected from the motorcycle. As the male tried to stand up, he was struck by a white Jeep of unknown model. The Jeep’s driver did not stop to provide assistance and fled the scene. The driver of the Murano remained at the scene.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the male, later identified as Mr. Rodriguez Mercado, deceased. The female driver, 20, of the Murano was determined not to be impaired and was questioned and released.
