HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Roberts and Detective J. Wallschlaeger reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to an assault in progress with a weapon call at an independent living community at the above address and found a man with gunshot wounds lying in the parking lot. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the man to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
A preliminary investigation determined the man, later identified as Mr. Beckett, was at his vehicle and was approached by an unknown male suspect who assaulted him. The suspect shot Beckett and took his belongings. The suspect then took the victim’s vehicle and struck him as he fled the scene. The vehicle was later recovered at an apartment complex in the 12500 block of Dunlap Street.
Further investigation by HPD homicide investigators, South Gessner Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team, HPD Gang Division, and the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Intelligence Division identified Arceneaux as the suspect in this incident. He was arrested on Tuesday (Sept. 3), subsequently charged, and booked into the Harris County Jail.
