Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed suspect by HPD officers at 3100 Corksie Street about 2:35 a.m. on Sunday (September 22).
The identity of the male suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Officers J. Lee and S. Palin, Jr. who discharged their duty weapons, were not injured in the incident. Officers Lee and Palin are assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division and were sworn in as officers in November 2020.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives J. Windham and A. Henderson reported:
HPD patrol officers were investigating an unrelated call in the area near the above address when they heard multiple gunshots. Officers went to investigate and, upon arrival in the 3100 block of Corksie Street, heard gunshots again.
Officers saw a male suspect who raised a gun at them and fired shots in their direction. Officers Lee and Palin discharged their duty weapons and struck the suspect. Officers immediately provided medical assistance until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived and pronounced the male deceased.
As officers continued to search the area, a second unresponsive male with gunshot wounds was found in the front yard of a nearby residence. Paramedics pronounced him deceased. The investigation indicated the male’s death was not a result of the exchange of gunfire between officers and the suspect.
Anyone with information in the fatal shooting of the second male is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
