Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 8300 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 3:10 a.m. on Friday (October 25).
The identity of the deceased male, 66, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer R. Guzman reported:
The male driver of a white Nissan Versa traveling southbound at the above address when he struck a black Ford Explorer also traveling southbound on the freeway. The collision caused the Explorer to veer toward the median and roll over. A driver of a silver Chevrolet Silverado then struck the Ford Explorer causing a second accident.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the driver of the Ford Explorer deceased. The passenger of the Chevrolet Silverado was transported to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Both the driver of the Nissan and Chevrolet remained at the scene, were questioned, and did not show signs of intoxication. The investigation is continuing.
