A suspect charged and wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 5900 Greens Road about 9:50 p.m. on June 29 is in custody.
The suspect, James Harris, 30, is charged with murder in the 262nd State District Court. A March 2024 booking photo of Harris, who is in Chicago Police Department custody is attached to this news release.
The victim is identified as Zacharian Howard, 28.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Hale and B. Stephens reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex at the above address and found an unresponsive man with multiple gunshot wounds lying on the ground across the front doorway of an apartment. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the man, later identified as Mr. Howard, deceased.
A preliminary investigation determined Howard had received a phone call from an acquaintance asking him to come outside and settle a dispute following a previous argument. Howard was shot multiple times by that person, who then fled on foot.
Further investigation and witness statements identified the suspect as James “Jay Foe” Harris. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and Harris was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting. At that time, his whereabouts were unknown.
Today (October 25), HPD homicide detectives received information that Harris was arrested by the Chicago Police Department. He remains in custody awaiting extradition to Harris County.
