Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 2100 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 2:15 a.m. today (January 8).
The identity of the deceased male, 40, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer T. Johnson reported:
The driver of a black Honda Civic traveling westbound (outbound) on the freeway near the above address failed to stay in a single lane and struck a guardrail at the Kirby Road exit ramp. The Honda became disabled, rolled into a moving lane of traffic and was struck by a black Hyundai Veloster. The driver of the Honda got out of his vehicle and jumped off the freeway to avoid being struck by any other vehicles. A green Kia Soul, also traveling on the freeway, then struck the rear of the Hyundai
The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced deceased by responding Houston Fire Department paramedics. The male driver, 26, of the Honda suffered injuries from the fall and was transported to an area hospital. The female driver, 40, of the Kia and her male passenger, 33, were transported by paramedics to an area hospital with minor injuries.
The investigation is continuing.
