Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man at 3009 Collingsworth Street about 6:15 p.m. on Saturday (July 1).
The suspect, Qualen Marqual Ward, 19, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 183rd State District Court. A booking photo of Ward is attached to this news release.
The victim, 18, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detective D. Spears reported:
The victim and Ward had a verbal altercation in a parking lot at the above address that escalated when Ward shot the victim and then fled the scene. Paramedics transported the victim to a hospital.
Officers later learned of Ward’s whereabouts and arrested him without further incident. He was subsequently taken to jail and charged for his role in the shooting.
