Investigation into Incident at 7907 Elwood Street,
Houston police are investigating the apparent suicide of a male suspect at 7907 Elwood Street about 12:40 p.m. on September 18.
The suspect, Manuel Limas, 36, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant B. Smith and Detectives V. Lewis, R. Anderson and M. Estep reported:
HPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team officers attempted to serve an arrest warrant at a residence at the above address and observed Limas on the front porch. SWAT officers gave Limas repeated verbal commands to surrender so he could be taken into custody without further incident. Limas refused all verbal commands and instead, produced a hand gun from his waist area. Limas then turned the gun on himself and fired the weapon.
SWAT medics provided medical assistance until Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported Limas to the hospital with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Limas was later pronounced deceased.
No HPD officers were injured or discharged their duty weapons in this incident.
As is customary in incidents when a suspect is deceased in the presence of HPD officers, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
