UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Man’s Death at 6000 Elm Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the death of a man found at 6000 Elm Street about 2:25 a.m. on August 4.
The suspect, Jose Raul Martinez, 20, is charged with murder in the 262nd State District Court.  A booking photo of Martinez is attached to this news release.
The victim has been identified as Cesar Zavala Moreira, 20,  An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined the cause of death to be due to a gunshot wound.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Persad and Detective L. Gonzales reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to an assault call at the above address and found an unresponsive man with trauma to the head area.  Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the man, later identified as Mr. Zavala Moreira, to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
At that time, the circumstances regarding the man’s death were unknown.
Further investigation identified Martinez as the suspect in this case.  On Thursday (August 15), Martinez was arrested by the HPD South Gessner Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team.  Martinez admitted to his role in Zavala Moreira’s death.
