UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting at 1500 Bailey Street

UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting at 1500 Bailey Street, A suspect wanted and charged in the fatal shooting of a man and the wounding of a woman at 1500 Bailey Street about 1 p.m. on January 23 is in custody.
The suspect, Corey Dontaye James, 20, is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 338th State District Court.  A booking photo of James is attached to this news release.
The male victim is identified as Carnell Meeks Jr., 21.  The female victim, 56, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Lopez and Detective N. Sharp reported:
According to witnesses, Mr. Meeks and the suspect got into a verbal altercation regarding a gaming console.  The altercation escalated to a physical fight and other persons attempted to break up the fight.  As Meeks and the suspect were separated, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots, striking Meeks and one of the persons (female) attempting to stop the fight.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victims to an area hospital, where Meeks was pronounced deceased.
Further investigation identified the suspect as James.  The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and James was charged in the case.  On Monday evening (Jan. 27). James turned himself in and was subsequently booked into the Harris County Jail.
