Houston police are investigating the shooting of a woman at 3800 Mangum Road about 6:30 a.m. on Thursday (October 28).
The victim is identified as Karmen Gibson, 39.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers C. Johns and M. Gregg reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the intersection of Watonga Street and West 34th Street and found Ms. Gibson had been shot once in the right foot. Officers recovered a semi-automatic pistol at the scene.
According to a witness, Gibson was helping a female put a large television into a vehicle when the female and a male got into an argument and then a physical fight. The female then pulled a firearm from inside the vehicle and shot at the male. The bullet inadvertently struck Gibson in the foot.
Gibson told detectives the female was not shooting at her and was only attempting to defend herself against the male. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Gibson to the hospital where she was treated and released.
After consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, it was determined no charges would be filed pending further investigation.
