Apartment Fire in The Neartown-Montrose Area

WHAT: Apartment fire.
WHEN: March 23, 2023 at 9:41 p.m.
WHERE: 2408 Elmen St. 77019.
INJURIES: One deceased cat.
PROPERTY SAVED: $245,000 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $125,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental due to an unspecified electrical fault and/or malfunction between floors.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within three minutes to find light smoke coming from the second floor of a 2-story apartment building. They made an attack on the fire and conducted a primary search. A deceased cat was found. The roof was ventilated, and the fire was extinguished. There was no spread to the attic, however there was fire in the joist space between the first and second floor units. Two units suffered fire damage and two others suffered water damage. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Crews from Stations 15, 6, 8, 7, 16, 30 and 28 responded to this incident.
