Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 1620 Bay Area Boulevard

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman at 1620 Bay Area Boulevard about 2:50 p.m. on Wednesday (May 1).
The suspect Ruben Venavides, Jr., 39, is charged with murder in the 182nd State District Court.  A booking photo of Venavides is attached to this news release.
The identity of the female victim, 38, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Lieutenant J. Horn and Detective K. Amri reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex at the above address and found an unresponsive woman with gunshot wounds lying in the doorway of an apartment.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the woman deceased.
A male suspect, later identified as Venavides, was detained at the scene.  A preliminary investigation determined the victim and Venavides got into an altercation that resulted in the shooting.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and Venavides was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting.  Venavides was then booked into the Harris County Jail.
