Houston police have learned a man critically injured in a crash at 9900 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 1:50 a.m. on Sunday (April 21) has died.
Doctors pronounced the man, 25, deceased at a hospital on Wednesday (April 24). His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer T. Smith reported:
A black Ford F-250 pickup truck was traveling southbound on the freeway at the above address in heavy rain when it rear-ended a red Hyundai Azera and then struck a barrier wall. Paramedics transported the Hyundai’s driver and passenger (victim) to an area hospital.
The Ford’s male driver, Horacio Cruz Vijarro, 46, showed signs of intoxication and was detained at the scene. He was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center and subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated in Harris County Criminal Court #5.
The investigation is continuing into possibly upgrading charges in the crash.
