Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 5200 Westheimer Road about 7:30 a.m. today (March 27).
The identity of the deceased male, 45, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer C. Ballard reported:
The male, a pedestrian, was entering a crosswalk at the above address when he was struck by a white Volkswagen Jetta traveling eastbound. The impact caused the pedestrian to land against the back of another vehicle. Paramedics transported the male to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The male driver of the Volkswagen initially did not stop, but turned around the block and returned to the scene. He was questioned and eventually released.
A preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian did not enter the crosswalk with the right of way and that the driver had a yellow light. The investigation is continuing.
